Regional Workshop: Addressing Irregular Migration and Brain Drain in Tunisia
Location: Tunis, Tunisia
Participants: Tunisian civil society stakeholders, media professionals, community leaders
In late 2025, We3C supported the facilitation of a regional workshop in Tunis as part of the project How do we avoid irregular migration and brain drain in Tunisia?. The workshop brought together civil society actors, media professionals, and community leaders to explore the drivers, impacts, and potential solutions to irregular migration and the emigration of highly skilled youth.
Through participatory discussions, stakeholders highlighted structural challenges such as unemployment, bureaucratic barriers, regional inequalities, and gaps in youth inclusion policies. Participants also emphasized the need for systemic approaches, including targeted economic and civic engagement opportunities, diaspora engagement strategies, and policy reforms to strengthen social and professional retention.
The workshop demonstrated the value of engaging diverse local actors in co-developing context-specific strategies, and underscored the importance of connecting local insights with broader policy and donor initiatives. By fostering dialogue across sectors, We3C contributed to advancing evidence-informed approaches that can inform both national strategies and transnational collaborations addressing migration and skills retention in the region.
