The South Mediterranean region faces critical challenges due to irregular migration and the departure of skilled professionals. “Reclaiming Our Future” brought together policymakers, academics, NGOs, and community leaders for a two-day conference focused on understanding and addressing the root causes of illegal immigration and brain drain. Through collaborative dialogue, the conference aimed to create actionable solutions that empower local communities, strengthen economies, and foster sustainable development.
Background
Irregular migration across the Mediterranean and the loss of human capital to Northern countries severely impact South Mediterranean societies, leading to economic instability, underdevelopment, and social fragmentation. This conference shifts the narrative toward local perspectives, emphasizing strategies to retain talent, enhance opportunities, and promote equitable growth.
